Wembley Stadium in London had been prepared and was completely sold out, awaiting an expectant live audience.  The worldwide TV audience for the next 16 hours would be in excess of 1.9 billion viewers.

As Sir Brian May writes in his foreword to this magnificently illustrated 194-page volume: ‘A huge army of musicians, technicians, stage crews and managerial teams came together with just one thought… to answer Bob Geldof’s call to make a stand against poverty in Africa.’

The First of the legendary artists to perform on that unique and unforgettable day were Status Quo, who set the tone with their superb anthem Rockin’ All Over the World.  They were followed by David Bowie, U2, Roxy Music, Elton John, the legendary performance by Queen, and many more of the all-time greats.

Photographer Murray Sanders was at the Wembley concert and armed only with his camera and enough reels of film (there was no digital technology back in 1985) he captured the magical atmosphere of the day from both the artists’ and audience’s perspective.
