Having been a prolific hit-maker with the Tommy Dorsey orchestra and as a solo artist through the 1940s and early ’50s, Frank Sinatra took advantage of the arrival of the stereo LP to establish a new strand of his career, working with great arrangers like Billy May and nelson Riddle to record a series of concept albums during the ’50s, of which this is the most famous. Recorded with nelson Riddle’s Orchestra, he performs a selection of jazzy upbeat standards by the finest Great American Songbook composers. Released in 1956, it was in the charts for months and remains one of the great albums of all time – it’s a true collector’s item.
