One of the great performers who was in the vanguard of the 1960s soul boom, Otis Redding’s career was cruelly cut short when he died in a ‘plane crash in 1967, but he nevertheless left a legacy of some brilliant and memorable hits which remain classics of the genre and of their era. Included here are some of the best-known of those which were a key element in the dance music of the times – “Respect”, “I Can’t Turn You Loose”, “Shake” and “Mr. Pitiful” – along with the atmospheric ballads “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long” and “[Sittin On] The Dock Of The Bay”. It’s an evocative reminder of an exciting few years in music.
