Charley Pride, who died in December 2020 aged 86, has the distinction of being the USA’s first African-American to become a regular visitor to the country music charts, having his first hits in the 1960s and eventually racking up more than 70 through until 1990. So successful was he that with the exception of the title track, every single recording in this collection was a country No. 1 – it’s a genuine “Greatest Hits”.
