Van Morrison – Astral Weeks

A former member of Irish ’60s R&B band Them, Van Morrison embarked on a solo career in 1967, and “Astral Weeks” was his second album, becoming something of a career landmark, acquiring a reputation, according to an on-line biog, as “one of rock’s greatest records and a culturally significant work”, influencing the likes of Bruce Springsteen and U2. The critic William Ruhlmann, writing at allmusic.com, said its reputation among critics was justified because “unlike any record before or since,” it “encompasses the passion and tenderness that have always mixed in the best postwar popular music”. This incarnation of the album sees four new titles being added to the original eight tracks. It is undoubtedly an album that rock fans should have in their collections.
