The former London bus driver Matt Monro was the UK’s answer to Frank Sinatra in the early ’60s, becoming a favourite crooner on TV variety shows. Making his chart debut at No. 3 in 1960 with “Portrait Of My Love”, he enjoyed a string of hits through the ’60s, including notable Top 10 entries with “My Kind Of Girl”, “Softly As I Leave You”, “Walk Away” and a version of The Beatles’ “Yesterday”, as well as memorably recording the title song, written by John Barry and Don Black, of the marvellous film “Born Free”. Also included is the memorable song “We’re Gonna Change The World”, an airplay hit which was popular through being featured on a Kellogg’s Corn Flakes TV ad, and his James Bond theme “From Russia With Love”.
